Ex-Cathedra formed in late '91 from the ashes of the guitarist's former band The God Squad. Every week or two we would get together and cover our favourite tunes and before long we had gathered a few originals - enough for a 7 track demo (100 copies) in '92-'93. |
| We played live on the Glasgow circuit to an appreciative audience and decided to release a 4 track EP (self-financed on Tartan Records). This EP sold- out within 6 months - so we decided to release a 2nd EP and do a small tour of The Netherlands and Belgium. We were on our way into '94. We began to attract some record company interest and Damaged Goods released a 7" single. We toured extensively on the UK pub and club circuit and managed to receive several auspicious support slots, including SLF, NOFX, Rancid, UK Subs, Bad Religion and at all-day festivals. Ex-Cathedra were also invited back to Europe, this time: Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovenia. We were gathering a small name for ourselves and in '96 felt it was time for an album. Having sold out of the 7", Damaged Goods agreed and pressed us up 2000 copies on CD and vinyl. All went well - we toured extensively, again in the UK and mostly in Europe (4 weeks at a time). Crowds were getting larger and more enthusiastic. When our drummer and bass player left, we found replacements and a saxophone player which really added to the sound we were looking for. This line-up is the best yet, a tight unit with the new sound better than ever. We did one more single for Damaged Goods and then started work on our second album. 1998 saw us demo songs for our second album - working title 'Innocence'. So that's it up to date, ready for the next phase! |
